Designs using black and white

Striking, timeless, and versatile, black and white floors have a quiet confidence that suits almost any space. They can be bold and graphic or subtle and classic, complementing a wide range of settings.

Although the chequerboard pattern is closely associated with black and white, you can apply this monochrome contrast to many other period patterns, such as our Norfolk design.

We can convert nearly all of our geometric patterns into a black-and-white colourway. Some of these patterns are perennial favourites, while others translate particularly well into this classic colour duo.

Clients can also take these designs a step further by introducing a an accent colour, a practice widespread in Victorian times to add character and help the floor integrate with its surroundings.

Black and white remains one of the most adaptable foundations, a safe yet stylish choice that complements the décor of many spaces.

Edwardian designs tend to use an earthy colour palette of red, brown, coffee, cognac, black, grey and white. Designs in the Edwardian period were simpler than the decorative Victorian patterns, using larger tile sizes and basic border patterns.
